Happy Birthday Emma!

Emma was just six weeks old when I met her. It was my birthday, and her mom and dad brought her for a visit, spreading her out on a blanket in front of the fireplace and watching her kick her little legs and stick out her tongue. She was so tiny... so sweet... and now she's six. How did that happen???

We spent the evening with Emma and her family, celebrating this special, special girl. We ate pizza and birthday cake, danced to Hannah Montana songs, and oohed and aahed over her gifts. As we were packing up to head home, Emma told Uncle Mike, "I don't want today to be over. I'm having so much fun!" It was a lot of fun, indeed, especially to see Emma smile in a way I had not seen in some time.

Toot! Toot! Let's Party!

Making her birthday wish.

Edie was very excited for cake, too. :-)

The ever-silly Uncle Mike.

I just love watching the girls play with Aaron. He sure loves them - he's going in for a kiss in this one...

Birthday loot.

It was definitely a Hannah Montana kind of birthday. Dolls. Cards. Costumes. Wigs. All HM. The wig was very.... entertaining.

Uncle Ricky.

We love you, Emma!!!

He's not a baby anymore

Every day brings a fresh reminder that our sweet, tiny baby has grown into an energetic, talkative toddler. Experienced parents are always commenting on how fast they grow up, but until you live it yourself, it sounds like an overused cliche. Take it from me, it's all too true.

Today marks Aaron's 17th month. He's a boy who loves to dance, with or without music; he's learned new signs (music, light, elephant, bath) as well as new words (mama - finally! - cheese, read, please, "Jakey"); he's still napping twice a day, which I hear is not normal for a boy this age, but for which I'm very thankful; his love of swimming long outlasts his ability to regulate his own body temperature; and Spice the cat is his new best friend and the lovey I think he's finally settled on for good. In a word, he's AMAZING. And I'm so glad he's mine. :-)

Where Do They Make Balloons?

We got a new Flip Video, and I just had to use it tonight. Aaron's favorite music is currently NO! by They Might Be Giants, and we must listen to it 25+ times a day. Here he is helping Daddy play it on the guitar.

Is He Headed for Project Runway?

Aaron was happily playing with his toys the other morning, and when I looked over, this is what I saw:

Mike said he found the same thing during a recent middle-of-the-night wakeup. And later that same day, I went in to his room as he was waking from his nap to find he'd taken his shirt off. Either he's learning to dress/undress himself, or he's a real fashion innovator.
